Animataurus – Everything You Need to Know About Animation in one Place
We are running a weekly contest for animators, artists, designers and illustrators. Each Sunday one author will be featured and his work will be presented on our blog (there is no material rewards (yet)). You can apply by sending a brief bio and two selected pieces (videos, illustrations, paintings etc.) to email@example.com (subject-contest).
All authors will be given a link to their websites/blogs/social media.
Animation has been the favorite way of capturing people’s attention since prehistory. Even the earliest attempts of art humans have ever made, the Paleolithic cave paintings such as the ones at Lascaux or Altamira, have tried to capture motion. The representations improved over time. There is a clay goblet discovered in Iran dating 5200BC which might be the first attempt of a flipbook in history. It’s an animation of a deer jumping. This desire to make images move has evolved into what we today know as animation.

“Animation offers a medium of story telling and visual entertainment which can bring pleasure and information to people of all ages everywhere in the world.” – Walt Disney
For people unrelated with the industry the first association when they hear the word animation is cartoons for children, and definitely not a multi-billion dollar industry. For animators, though, it’s the most beautiful thing you could imagine in the world. Animation is a career that lets you enjoy what you do, and at the same time pretend that you are a serious “computer guy” such as a software developer or a computer scientist.
If you are just starting in animation, or if you’d like to improve, you can check out our recommended reading. We have created a list of books used in animation studios all over the world and taught from at numerous animation schools. The best way to improve besides from reading books is watching animation tutorials. You can get tons of free tutorials online, and each of them can help you. Decide which animation software you want to use in your work. Whether you will start in 2D or 3D animation. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask in the comments sections and feel free to contact us directly. We will keep updating the site with useful tutorials for each stage of creating animated movies, character design, compositing, stop-motion, and more as we go along.
